Long Term English Learners (LTEL) Institute

Long Term English Learners (LTEL) Institute

This professional learning institute seeks to advance English Learner success by providing district, school-site and teacher leaders with the knowledge, strategies, and structures to transform policies and practices for students who meet Long Term English Learner (LTEL) criteria and to prevent ELs from entering LTEL status. The institute will support educational leaders in aligning systems, policies, and practices with state guidance and current research for multilingual learner success and to develop coherent, culturally sustaining approaches with service design and implementation. Participants will engage with and receive actionable tools for building integrated systems where multilingual students can thrive academically, linguistically, and socially.

Professional Development

The Center for Equity for English Learners provided a virtual, 2-Session Long Term English Learners (LTEL) Institute in the Fall, 2026. Our Formative Assessment Institute is open to teachers, coaches, and administrators of Multilingual/English Learners in PreK-12th grade and focuses on key principles, instructional consideration, and action planning for formative assessment practices centered around Multilingual/English Learners.
