International students applying to LMU's School of Education must meet the following requirements in addition to program-specific admission requirements.
TOEFL/IELTS/Duolingo Scores
Applicants whose native language is not English and have not completed a high school diploma or postsecondary degree at a university in the United States or other country where English is the primary language must submit a TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo score. Exceptions to this rule may be made for students from countries where English is one of several official languages, as well as at the discretion of the program director.
You must score:
- TOEFL (iBT only):
- For exams taken before January 21, 2026: 100 or above
- For exams taken on or after January 21, 2026: 5 or above
- IELTS: 7.0 or above
- Duolingo English Test: 130 or above
Applicants who are required to submit test scores should use school code 4403.
Transcript Evaluation
Applicants who completed postsecondary education at an institution outside the United States must hold a degree from an institution recognized by the appropriate national education authority. International transcripts must be translated, if necessary, and evaluated to verify that the degree is equivalent to a U.S. bachelor’s degree.
If you are applying to one of the following California credential or authorization programs, you must use a foreign transcript evaluation agency approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC):
- Teaching Credentials
- Bilingual Authorization
- Counseling pathways that include the Pupil Personnel Services Credential
- School Psychology
- Preliminary Administrative Services Credential
- Child Welfare and Attendance Authorization
If you are applying to one of the following programs, you may use any U.S. transcript evaluation service:
- Catholic School Administration Certificate
- M.A. in Educational Studies
