Digital credentials are digital visual representations that signify verifiable qualifications or achievements earned by an individual. These credentials can include academic degrees, certifications, badges, or other forms of recognition. Digital credentials provide a portable and verifiable way for individuals to showcase their skills and accomplishments to employers, educational institutions, and other stakeholders.
Digital badges are electronic representations of achievements or skills that individuals earn from various programs or institutions. These badges contain embedded metadata, offering detailed information such as the criteria for earning them, the issuing organization, and the date of issuance. Once earned, digital badges can be displayed on websites, shared via social media, or stored in digital wallets for easy access and verification.
When an organization issues a digital badge, it confirms that the recipient has successfully met the requirements of the associated program. These requirements may include fulfilling time commitments, demonstrating specific achievements, completing assigned tasks, or actively participating in the program.
Stackable badges are a collection of digital badges earned by an individual that can be combined or "stacked" into a Micro Credential to demonstrate a broader set of skills or achievements. These badges are designed to be complementary, allowing individuals to showcase their proficiency in multiple related areas or to progress along a learning pathway. Stackable badges provide a more comprehensive representation of an individual's capabilities than single badges alone and document proficiency in a series of professional learning requirements, context-based assignments, and assessments.
A Micro Credential is a digital credential that may be earned by completing a series of related target courses. Micro Credentials are competency-based recognitions where educators can demonstrate professional growth and expertise in a particular area such as Transitional Kindergarten, Leadership for Equity, Teaching Academic Spanish, Teaching in Multilingual Programs, etc.
