Student Council Leadership Program

The Upward Bound Student Council exists to give students a voice in shaping their experience in the program. The Council serves as a representative body that connects students with program staff, ensuring that student perspectives are heard and valued. At the same time, members develop important leadership, communication, and teamwork skills that will benefit them in college, career, and beyond.

Council members play an active role in building community within UB and UBMS. They help welcome and orient new students, serve as role models, and work closely with staff to plan and host activities. By bridging communication between students and staff, members ensure that the needs, concerns, and ideas of participants are represented.

Responsibilities of Council Members

  • Represent student voices and bring forward concerns, ideas, and solutions at Council meetings.

  • Help strengthen community by promoting unity and collaboration among students.

  • Support orientation for new students and serve as positive representatives of the program.

  • Collaborate with staff to plan, organize, and host student activities.

  • Maintain a positive, respectful, and inclusive attitude toward peers and staff at all times.

  • Attend all Council meetings and communicate with the Advisor if an absence is unavoidable.

  • Uphold high standards of leadership by modeling respect, responsibility, and inclusivity.

The Student Council is not only a leadership opportunity but also a chance for students to leave a lasting impact on the LMU Upward Bound community.
