Refugee and Immigrant Student Curriculum

Refugee and Immigrant Student Curriculum

As a key contributor in The Support for Immigrant & Refugee Students (SIRS) Project, the Center for Equity for English Learners (CEEL) at Loyola Marymount University was charged with the development of the project’s curriculum, which serves as the foundation for professional learning and educator support. Through this multi-pronged effort, the project provides:

  • Professional development workshops and educator resources grounded in the CEEL-developed curriculum;
  • Regional networks to support district and county office leaders; and
  • Connections to statewide and national organizations offering resources that promote the education, health, and well-being of immigrant and refugee students and families.

Launched in 2017 by Californians Together in response to the increasingly hostile climate toward immigrants and the insecurity caused by changing policy landscapes, SIRS’s goal is to support the creation of safe, inclusive learning environments for students of all backgrounds, with a focus on meeting the needs of immigrant and refugee students in PreK–12 schools across California.
