The Sobrato Family Foundation funded the Center for Equity for English Learners (CEEL) to engage and advance crucial policy pertaining to English Learners in the state of California, with a particular focus on teacher support, new bilingual program designs, financing for EL services, and testing/assessment. This 18 month grant project (Dec. 2017 – July 2019) will result in increased state and local level advocacy for English Learners through increased collaboration with statewide agencies as well as increased stakeholder engagement to influence EL policy, tools, and grant making.
Collaborative efforts with the Sobrato Early Academic Language (SEAL) Model include (1) a multi-year Research and Evaluation study of the impacts of SEAL model replication across twelve districts in six counties representing northern, central, and southern California regions; and (2) administration of a U.S. Department of Education National Professional Development Grant – Project ROYAL (Rigorous Opportunities for Young-children to Accelerate Language and Literacy: Effects of the Sobrato Early Academic Language Model).
