Teacher Preparation Programs

LMU is proud to provide supportive teacher certification programs in elementary, secondary, bilingual, and special education, with a multitude of choices for completing fieldwork. In partnership with schools and districts across California, we invite you to join the legacy of thousands of LMU teaching alumni making a difference across communities.

Credential and Authorization Options

Elementary Education

Credentialed to teach multiple subjects (e.g. art, English, history, math, science, etc.) to the same group of students in a self-contained classroom. Most frequently found in elementary K-5 schools.

Secondary Education

Credentialed to teach a single subject (e.g. art, English, math, sciences, or social sciences) to rotating students throughout the day. Most frequently found in middle and and high school settings.

Special Education

Credentialed to teach, provide educational assessment, and offer special education support to K-12 students with mild to moderate support needs.  Candidates may also qualify to receive a Multiple Subject (elementary) credential.

Bilingual Authorization

Candidates with bilingual language competency in English and in Spanish, Mandarin, or Cantonese, obtain additional authorization to teach in bilingual and language immersion classrooms.

Our program design lets you customize your journey to becoming a teacher. Finish your credential in just one year and stay on for an optional second year to earn a master’s degree in a specialized concentration of your choosing. Our advisors will help you build a plan that fits your career goals.
