Teacher Intern Programs

LMU proudly offers supportive teacher intern training programs in partnership with schools across California

Intern Teaching at LMU

Intern teachers are hired by K-12 schools that in turn partner with LMU—where we provide the required coursework and critical field support to successfully complete a California teaching credential. LMU utilizes your intern teaching experience to meet required fieldwork.  To be hired as an intern teacher, LMU provides a university recommendation for you to the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) to issue an Intern Credential. There are specific CTC requirements and critical deadlines that need to be met prior to issuance of an Intern Credential. This includes verification of full-time employment. Interns receive a intern teacher salary, teach full-time, and complete coursework with LMU.

As you begin your journey as a intern teacher at a school, we strive to support you every step of the way. It takes just one year to earn your teaching credential at LMU, and a second year to earn your optional, career desirable, master’s degree. This 1+1 design saves you time and money and boosts your earning potential as an educator.

We accept and support interns from most public/charter schools (with verification of employment) in greater Los Angeles, Orange County, and the Bay Area of California. We also proudly partner with a variety of educational organizations, including, but not limited to, those listed below, who include beneficial tuition assistance for their teachers. Partnership organizations accept applications for intern teaching positions directly. Once hired by one of our registered partnership organizations, they connect you with us to begin your teacher preparation program application process.

Each teacher resident automatically receives a scholarship from LMU School of Education. This scholarship is used to help cover the cost of tuition for the program.

We also encourage you to apply for additional aid or loans to help offset costs beyond tuition, such as fees and living expenses, including the popular Golden State Teachers Grant (up to $10,000) and TEACH grant ($4,000).  Be sure to closely review additional requirements of these grants.  Other examples of aid and support include grants and federal loan forgiveness programs after graduation.

Financial Aid

LMU’s Financial Aid office provides information about state and federal financial aid, as well as financing options for any expenses not covered by your LMU tuition scholarship and/or any other expected aid. You can visit the Graduate Student Cost of Attendance site for additional details about non-tuition costs and fees.

Candidates applying for additional types of state and federal aid, including loans, are required to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or California DREAM Act.
