Allegra Johnson

Allegra Johnson, Ed.D. '20, has worked in special education since 2007. Her journey in education began as a Teach for America corps member. Allegra was assigned to teach at Markham Middle School in South LA as a self-contained special education English Language Arts teacher. After working in Los Angeles Unified School District for three years, Allegra moved into the charter section and served as a Resource Specialist both at Aspire Public Schools and Da Vinci Schools. Currently, she is serving as the Director of Special Education for Da Vinci Schools in El Segundo, California. Dr. Johnson earned her Bachelor of Arts in Humanities from New College California. She holds an Education Specialist credential and Masters of Arts in Special Education from Loyola Marymount University. Allegra also holds a Clear Administrative Credential from California State University Dominguez Hills. Dr. Johnson plans to continue her research in the areas of inclusive education, professional learning practices, and systemic change. She is excited to embark on a new journey into higher education as an Adjunct Professor position with the Alder Graduate School of Education. Allegra’s dissertation, “The Limits of Inclusion: Teacher Beliefs and Experience with Inclusion of Students with Learning Disabilities” examined general education teacher attitudes towards inclusion, as well as general education teacher’s perspectives of students labeled with a learning disability.
