Adan Jaramillo

Adan Jaramillo, principal of Resurrection School in Los Angeles, is dedicated to providing quality education that empowers students to succeed and become community leaders. As a proud alumnus of Resurrection, he leads a team of dynamic teachers and staff who share a passion for educational ministry. With over a decade of experience in Catholic education, Adan has served the St. John Bosco community in various roles: vice principal, youth ministry, student activities, dean of students, and Social Studies teacher. This marks Adan's second tour at Resurrection, where he continues to shape the future of education and inspire young minds.

Adan's decision to enroll in LMU's Ed.D. Program was driven by his passion for leadership and mission-building in Catholic education. With a wealth of experience working across elementary to high school and in a charism-sponsored school system, Adan understands the importance of organizational structure and school governance structures in enhancing student outcomes. The program's focus on transformational change and research made it the perfect fit for Adan's professional aspirations of school leadership in Catholic education. Furthermore, the support of his grandmother and her vision of education being invaluable cemented his decision to take this next step in his educational journey.

Adan's dissertation focused on Catholic parochial elementary governance structures and how to best find a model that would lead to future sustainability. Due to the current unpredictability in enrollment, Catholic schools, elementary schools in particular, are challenged to consider new approaches to ensure their viability. Governance is one area that is particularly in need of innovation. The purpose of Adan's dissertation was to examine Catholic school leaders’ perceptions of the central-collegial governance model, including perceptions of the transition process required to implement the change at their schools. Adan is interested in studying the impact of school governance structures and sustainability.

Adan's courses in Situated Inquiry, Qualitative Research, and Organizational Theory as a student in the Ed.D. Program were important to his professional and personal development. It was from these courses which Adan learned how data-informed practices truly impact organizational structures. The importance of establishing a vision and collective buy-in through assessing, collaboration, and implementation has made Adan a better practitioner in his field. Since being a student in the Ed.D. Program, Adan has understood that the program offers more than just a degree, but a transformative mindset that has been applicable in many situations to enable change.
