In the online application, select your program: 

  1. Elementary Multiple Subject Teaching Credential + M.A. in Transformative Education
  2. Secondary Single Subject Teaching Credential + M.A. in Transformative Education
  3. Education Specialist in Mild to Moderate Support Needs + M.A. in Special Education (see Special Education)
Application Items
  1. Statement of Intent 
  2. Official transcripts (one set) from all colleges and/or universities attended.
    •  A bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution (or international equivalent) is required 
    • Applicants who completed an undergraduate or graduate degree outside of the U.S.A. or U.S. Territory will need to provide both a formal transcript and a formal transcript evaluation by professional transcript evaluation agency,
    • Applicants who are citizens of countries where English is not a primary language are required to also complete the TOEFL, IELTS, or DuoLingo exam of English proficiency.
  3. Letter of Recommendation as specified within the application (when required in application).
  4. Resume
  5. Specific materials as required by a formal teacher preparation partnership (see below).
California Credential Requirements

California has greatly expanded options for meeting these requirements, including undergraduate coursework already completed.  Please review thoroughly and feel free to consult with a School of Education Admissions or Program representative.  In the application, you will simply be asked for your initial plan to meet these.  If you have met a requirement, please do upload into your application any applicable verification (other than transcripts) that meets the requirement.

Fieldwork Pathway Items

Intern Teacher Pathway and Private School Teacher Pathway

  • For those in the private or intern teacher pathway:  Verification of Partnership Contract or Employment as a Teacher, among other items.  All applicable forms are available within the application for download.  Post acceptance, there is a California pre-service requirement for interns, with options based on prior coursework and experience (evaluated prior to enrollment).  

Student Teaching Pathway

  • For those in the student teaching with a mentor teacher pathway:  LMU will request negative TB results within 12 months of beginning field experiences.
Partnership Teacher Prep Programs

The School of Education also provides other more specialized partnership programs, which you may wish to explore, including:

  • LMU has established formal partnerships with agencies for interns (and residents), such as Teach For America, Ednovate, Green Dot, KIPP, Para Los Niños, STEM Prep Academy, Camino Nuevo Schools, PUC, Seneca, Wonderful.  Candidates pursuing teaching employment may wish to inquire with these organizations for an opportunity to enter the program via a partnership.
  • For our full-time Catholic School educators, employed in either the greater Los Angeles or Bay Area, we offer the Catholic Archdiocesan School Teachers (CAST) Program.  Candidates pursuing teaching employment may wish to inquire with the Dept of Catholic Schools in Los Angeles for an opportunity to enter the program via this partnership.
  • For aspiring full-time Catholic School educators, an immersive experience wherein we provide you with a fully salaried teaching position in an L.A. area Catholic school, house you with compassionate service minded beginning teachers, and support you throughout professionally and spiritually, through academic and personal team building and growth activities.  Learn more about PLACE Corps Program.

 

Per Federal Regulation 34 CFR 668.43(a)(5)(v), all LMU School of Education credential/licensure programs meet the California state requirements as specified by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC) and for the CA Board of Behavioral Sciences as appropriate. The institution has not made a determination as to whether these credential, licensure, and professional preparation programs meet the requirements of states outside of California. If you are interested in practicing outside the state of California, it is recommended that you contact the respective licensing entity of that state to seek information or guidance regarding their licensure and credential requirements in advance to allowing appropriate planning.
