  • Multiple Subjects Methods for Diverse Populations (3 units)
  • Praxis Fieldwork Seminar 1 for Ed Specialist Candidates* (2 units) 
  • Evidence-Based Assessment Practices to Promote Student Learning (3 units)
  • Literacy Methods for Diverse Populations (3 units)
  • Reading Instruction Competence Assessment (RICA) - Candidates register for the RICA after completing the Literacy Methods for Diverse Populations course.
  • Praxis Fieldwork Seminar 2 for Ed Specialist Candidates* (2 units) 
  • Creating & Maintaining Effective Environments in Support of Student Learning (3 units)
  • Pedagogy and Transition for Students with Disabilities (2 units) 
  • Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) in Education (3 units)

CEUs - Continuing Education Course Units (fee-based; non-tuition courses)

  • Foundations of Online Teaching (taken anytime during first year)
  • Health Education + CPR Certification (taken anytime during first year)

* Prerequisite CTC requirements (Basic Skills, Subject Matter, COC, RICA) are verified prior to enrollment in Fieldwork. 

Upon successful completion of all course and CTC requirements, including fieldwork, candidates are eligible to receive education specialist and multiple subject teaching credential(s) at end of year 1.

Year 2

M.A. in Special Education – 12 graduate semester units beyond credential coursework

  • EDES 6608 Research Methods in Special Education (3 units)
  • EDES 6609 Adv Inclusionary Practicum for Students with High Incidence Disabilities (3 units)
  • EDES 6610 Special Topics in Special Education (3 units)
  • EDES 6611 Master’s Professional Project (3 units)




Per Federal Regulation 34 CFR 668.43(a)(5)(v), all LMU School of Education credential/licensure programs meet the California state requirements as specified by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC) and for the CA Board of Behavioral Sciences as appropriate. The institution has not made a determination as to whether these credential, licensure, and professional preparation programs meet the requirements of states outside of California. If you are interested in practicing outside the state of California, it is recommended that you contact the respective licensing entity of that state to seek information or guidance regarding their licensure and credential requirements in advance to allowing appropriate planning.
