LMU's Special Education program is designed f
or candidates in or out of the classroom that desire in-depth understanding and skills to assist struggling learners. The Elementary Multiple Subject Teaching Credential is available for interested applicants with no additional coursework. In fieldwork, there are learning modality modifications, as well as the applicable California Subject Matter Competency, but no additional units, for the additional credential.

- Statement of Intent
- Official transcripts (one set) from all colleges and/or universities attended.
- A bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution (or international equivalent) is required.
- Applicants who completed an undergraduate or graduate degree outside of the U.S.A. or U.S. Territory will need to provide both a formal official transcript and a formal official transcript evaluation by a professional transcript evaluation agency.
- Applicants who are citizens of countries where English is not a primary language are required to also complete the TOEFL, IELTS, or DuoLingo exam of English proficiency.
- Letter(s) of Recommendation (if applicable, specified within application)
- Professional Resume, including any paid or unpaid work with children in the K-12 age range

Fieldwork Pathway Requirements |

- For Student Teaching Pathway: Verification of 20 hours of experience working with culturally diverse youth in the age group you plan to teach.
- For Student Teaching Pathway: LMU will require Tuberculin Skin Test Result within 9 months of starting student teaching.
- For those in the intern or resident full-time teacher pathway: Verification of Partnership Contract or Employment as a Teacher, among other items. All applicable forms are available with the application for download.
Per Federal Regulation 34 CFR 668.43(a)(5)(v), all LMU School of Education credential/licensure programs meet the California state requirements as specified by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC) and for the CA Board of Behavioral Sciences as appropriate. The institution has not made a determination as to whether these credential, licensure, and professional preparation programs meet the requirements of states outside of California. If you are interested in practicing outside the state of California, it is recommended that you contact the respective licensing entity of that state to seek information or guidance regarding their licensure and credential requirements in advance to allowing appropriate planning.
