Maryann Francis, Assistant Director, Counseling Programs

As Assistant Director of LMU’s Counseling Programs, Dr. Maryann Francis holds a steadfast commitment to fostering emotional well-being and holistic growth throughout her academic and professional journey. Dr. Francis possesses a Doctorate Degree in Educational Leadership as well as a Master of Science degree in Counseling (option in School Psychology), Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) Credential and the Child Welfare and Attendance (CWA) Authorization. Having graduated with distinction from California State University, Los Angeles, Dr. Francis has honed a comprehensive understanding of educational and counseling principles that underpin effective support systems. 

An advocate for the well-being of children and adults alike, Dr. Francis channels her passion into every facet of their work as an administrator and within the classrooms in the Counseling Programs, as she continues to teach various courses in the program such as Helping Skills, Lifespan Development, and supervises students’ entire Fieldwork experiences. This dedication extends beyond professional responsibilities, manifesting in volunteer efforts and community engagement initiatives that benefit young minds. 

Dr. Francis’ professional journey is complemented by a deep-seated passion for music, which serves as a creative outlet and a source of inspiration. Recognizing the importance of laughter as a therapeutic tool, she also seamlessly integrates a sense of humor and warmth into her administrative, teaching, and counseling approach, creating an environment of trust and openness while recognizing the therapeutic value of these elements in enriching lives. Her strong faith and passion for God guides her work and personal ethos, contributing to a sense of purpose and compassion that permeates her interactions. 

It is Dr. Francis’ passion to guide her students in discovering the transformative power of taking a holistic approach to counseling, acknowledging the interconnectedness of various aspects of an individual's life. This approach has personally enabled her to provide comprehensive and tailored support, ensuring that the emotional, psychological, and developmental needs of each individual are addressed effectively.
