Keynote Speaker:

Monday, February 18, 2019

The lecture focused on Dr. Ginwright’s groundbreaking work, which proposes a new movement of healing justice, particularly on the lives of African American youth, to repair the damage done by the erosion of hope and structural violence in urban communities. Drawing on ethnographic case studies, Dr. Ginwright's work chronicles how teacher activists can employ healing strategies within their work in schools and communities to overcome negative impacts on academic achievement and civic engagement by supporting their students to become powerful civic actors. Arguing that healing a community is a form of political action, Dr. Ginwright will emphasize the need to place healing and hope at the center of our educational and political strategies for social justice.
