Project 1

STEM Academy of Hollywood and Sylmar Biotech Health Academy

A demonstration project at these two high schools would seek to answer the question: what are the best practices to implement rigorous, standards-aligned project-based and linked-learning across content areas?

This project grew out of a connection between Paul, a principal at STEM Academy, and Maria, principal at SBHA. During one of the early colloquiums, Paul and Maria acted out a "When Harry Met Sally" skit to describe how TESP brought them together. Maria was a new linked-learning principal and Paul was an experienced linked-learning principal. This project facilitated teacher exchanges where the SBHA teachers would have an opportunity to visit STEM Academy to see what instruction looked like in a full operational linked-learning school. STEM Academy has served as the model for the implementation of the successful “Linked Learning” curriculum at Sylmar Biotech Academy.
