Clinical Practice

  • During the first year of the program, traditional teacher candidates are placed in a site for clinical practice for three hours on one consistent day per week over 15 weeks (i.e., 9am-12pm every Tuesday).
  • During the first semester of the second year of the program, traditional teacher candidates are placed in a site for clinical practice for two days per week for 6 hours per day over 15 weeks.
  • During the second semester of the second year of the program, traditional teacher candidates are placed in a site for clinical practice for two days per week for six hours per day for the first 7 weeks of the semester. Then, in the second half of that semester, traditional teacher candidates transition to full-time student teaching (5 days per week for the remaining 8 weeks of the semester).

Additional State Required Assessments for the CA Credential

  • Basic Skills Requirement (CBEST, SAT, etc.) ~ usually completed during admission process
  • CSET exam (Subject Matter Competency Requirement) ~ passed before student teaching
  • RICA exam (Reading Instruction Competence Assessment) ~ completed after Literacy course
  • California EdTPA 1,2,3,4 (completed throughout)

Option 1 Add-On: MA in Secondary Education
