Where do you work and what is your title?
I am currently working for LAUSD at an elementary school (K-6th) in East Los Angeles (Boyle Heights).
What would you consider to be your area of expertise at this point in your career?
An area of expertise for me at this point is development and facilitation of Tier 2 Behavior Interventions and supporting students in the general education and special education settings. I am passionate about individual and group counseling support and social skills training as a form of Tier 2 Intervention for Behavior.
How has your work made an impact on the lives of others?
As a school psychologist, I have the opportunity to work not only directly with students in need of socio-emotional and behavioral support but also indirectly as a resource to parents and teachers. I am able to help parents and teachers learn how to work with some of the most challenging students that struggle with either disabilities or socio-emotional needs, such as trauma, poor social skills, etc.
How has your LMU education contributed to your success?
My education at LMU has contributed to my overall ability to be employed by the district, given that our program has such a good reputation and alumni that have proven themselves to be some of the best school psychologists in the field. My education at LMU and the program's focus on social justice allowed me in many ways to stand out from others in a pool of applicants because of my desire and willingness to go above and beyond the expectations of my job, a quality that the program always stressed.
