Hello and Welcome!
I am thrilled that you are interested in becoming a school psychologist — the best career option for anyone who enjoys the combination of psychology and education!
I am also delighted that you are considering Loyola Marymount University School Psychology program as the training program to prepare you for your career.
My name is Brian Leung and I have been the program director of our school psychology program since 2006. I am a tenured professor and have been with LMU since 1990 in the School of Education.
Our school psychology program is both state and nationally accredited and has had a long history in training future school psychologists as we have existed since the 1950s. We hold a strong reputation in local schools throughout the State, especially in Southern California, due to our exemplary alumni who work in public and charter schools. Our three-year "trimester" cohort program is rigorous and requires a strong commitment to excellence. We offer small classes and provide strong support to you, both from the faculty and from your cohort peers. The latter is through our unique student organization (Graduate Association of School Psychology) where you will be paired with a student mentor. All of our courses have field-based assignments so you have the opportunity of connecting theory to practice. I encourage you to review our admission material for a full picture of our program, admission requirements, and special program options (e.g. study abroad)!
We also host periodic information sessions to describe our program and answer your questions. If you wish to talk individually, I would be pleased to sit down with you when you visit our beautiful campus in Westchester. You can make an appointment with me to meet in-person or virtually, or schedule a time to visit a class and talk to our students.
Thank you for your interest in our school psychology program and visiting our website! I hope to meet you soon.
Brian P. Leung, Ph.D.
Professor and Director, School Psychology Program
