Academic Background in Psychology
Successful candidates for admission have majored or minored in psychology, child development, education, or closely related field as an undergraduate or graduate student. Alternatively, other successful candidates have completed 18 semester units of undergraduate prerequisite coursework in psychology.
The 18 undergraduate semester units include the following course titles/topics:
- Introductory Psychology
- Cognition/Learning Theories
- Human Development/Developmental Psychology
- Physiological/Neurological Psychology
- Statistics or Experimental Psychology
- Social Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, or Personality Theory
Prerequisite coursework is equivalent to 18 semester units (6 classes at 3 units each) and/or appropriate quarter conversion units. The prerequisite coursework can be in progress when you apply to the program, however it does need to be fully completed prior to enrolling in the LMU summer session II semester start (first week of July) of the Educational Psychology program. All prerequisite coursework needs to be completed at an accredited college or university.
