Welcome to the Counseling Program in the School of Education at Loyola Marymount University!

What makes the LMU Counseling Program unique from all other counselor education graduate programs? Here you will find a warm, supportive group of core full-time, doctoral-level faculty members who work with you academically and personally throughout your time in graduate studies here at LMU. Our program includes:

  • Our talented full-time faculty, as well as a core group of dedicated adjunct faculty members who are current leaders in the fields of counseling, psychology, and education;
  • A group of like-minded graduate students with exceptional gifts, talents, and shared interests;
  • Exceptionally supportive departmental staff dedicated to advising you on program scheduling, academic tracks, and requirements to help you make the most of your time at LMU, and;
  • Unique opportunities for summer graduate study abroad courses that allow our LMU Counseling graduate students to develop a truly global education in the counseling field.

In addition, one of the many strengths of our Counseling program here at LMU is the richness and diversity of the fieldwork sites that our students can experience during the culminating year of their graduate career. LMU faculty and fieldwork instructors have worked diligently to develop strong ties with local and regional sites offered at community mental health agencies, public, private and Catholic school settings, and private non-profit organizations – all of which add to the richness of the education and training you will receive as a member of our community of learners.

These qualities make our Counseling program here at LMU the place for you to train, to shine in your endeavors to become a counseling practitioner, and to remain connected through our strong LMU alumni groups and networking events throughout your professional counseling career.

We believe in helping our graduate students "learn, believe, practice, and shine" in their abilities to make a difference. We view your time with us – on our beautiful LMU campus – to be an eventful, rewarding, and yet serious time of professional growth, in which the academic program and learning community you foster with us helps you realize your dreams to serve others.
