Grade Seven (Pre-Algebra) Description
Concepts of statistics are expanded at the beginning of the Pre-Algebra course to include new statistical measures, and methods of problem solving. The concept of the rational numbers is extended, as the concept of absolute value is introduced, and operations on fractions and decimals are mastered for more complex problems. Building on the concept of the unknown from the previous grade, equations and inequalities are used to represent real world problems. Methods of solving basic equations and inequalities in one variable are solidified. The concept of the exponent is introduced, and expressions and equations involving exponents are written, including the Pythagorean theorem. The concept of shape is more formally introduced with the concept of a polygon. Parallel lines are defined, and basic geometric constructions are introduced. Coordinate geometry and basic plane transformations are investigated. The concepts of equation and graph are then linked in an introduction to functions, and equations in two variables.
