Professional Development (PD) Session

PD Sessions are designed to give an overview of MAST Modules, demonstrating both the story and practice of the MAST Program.

PD Sessions occur 4 times a year (August, November, February, May) and are designed to give an overview of MAST program curriculum, teaching the story, research, and connected lesson and unit flow. PD Sessions focus on communicating the research and foundation for MAST strategies and goals to shift teaching practice.  Each PD Session models effective lesson design, beginning with a hook to engage the participants, an activity that connects a participant’s practice with expected practice, an interactive mini-lecture with demonstrations of strategies, differentiated support to implement MAST; interactive collaborative sessions within content area groups to focus on planning that immediately integrates the MAST program; and a closure activity. Each PD Session is tailored to meet the needs of the participants as determined by program and student performance data.  The focus for the four PD Sessions is based on where participates are in the MAST program (new or continuing).  For new participants, the following Modules are introduced:  August- Introduce Module 1, November- Introduce Module 2, February- Connect Modules 1 & 2, May- MAST Comprehensive Review Unit in preparation for standardized exams students take in the spring.  For continuing participants, the following Modules are introduced:  August- Introduce Module 3, November- Introduce Module 4, February- Connect Modules 1-4, May- MAST Comprehensive Review Unit.
