The Math and Science Academic Support (MASAS) Program is a transformative teaching program that strengthens the academic expertise of students pursuing degrees in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

MASAS institutionalizes the approach to academic support by teaching STEM student leaders how to increase student learning through effective facilitation of collaborative study sessions. The goal of the MASAS program is to provide STEM student leaders with the knowledge required to effectively support students, who struggle in their STEM undergraduate courses, to achieve proficiency and success; thereby earning a STEM undergraduate degree. This knowledge and understanding will also strengthen the academic foundation of the student leaders; thereby furthering their goal of becoming future doctors, scientists, engineers, and mathematicians.

Current Projects

CMAST is applying results from MAST (6-12 students) to design a program (MASAS) that teaches peer tutors in mathematics at the college level to increase the academic proficiency of their peers.

CMAST is implementing MASAS through the LMU Learning Resource Center (LRC), where CMAST faculty teach peer tutors in mathematics and chemistry at the college level to increase the academic proficiency of their peers.
