The Loyola Marymount University's Center for Math and Science Teaching
has developed a forum for collaborative dialogue on Facebook that
focuses on overcoming obstacles by reviewing international solutions.
These critical discussions lead to action research in classrooms in which expert
practitioners implement recommendations. Results are shared and
analyzed on Facebook and the collaboration continues. Active
participants in the CMAST Facebook discussion comprise the CMAST
Professional Learning Community (PLC) working collectively towards
change.
Action ResearchThe CMAST
PLC on Facebook connects to Action Research, where expert practitioners
can engage within the CMAST PLC by sharing results, seeking
recommendations, and refining implementation through an
act-observe-reflect methodology.
Our Focus
The
CMAST Faculty and Transformational Leaders' (TLs) action research focus
for 2009-2010 is transforming how students make choices to move their
learning forward and achieve mastery in math or science. Mastering is defined to be where student learning become transformational and moves beyond transmissive and transactional (Miller and Seller, 1990).
