Grants & Funding

Bank of America

Bank of America donated $1 million to launch the Center for Equity for English Learners. This anchor funding served primarily to provide scholarships for 50 graduate students to support their completion of a program of study emphasizing leadership in the education of English Learners. The Center is continually seeking funding to support additional students and to fund current and future projects.

California Community Foundation (CCF)

CEEL is also the proud recipient of several California Community Foundation (CCF) Grants, the first being in 2008 for $10,000. The second, in collaboration with LMU's Family of Schools, was for $50,000. Most recently, in collaboration with El Monte School District, CEEL acquired a third CCF Grant for $25,000-- a ten month effort to establish a seamless and consistent Pre K-12 curriculum articulation to focus on college level skills for English learners. This resulted in the establishment of the El Monte Inter-District LTEL Task Force to serve as a resource for articulating instructional efforts.

Doing What Works (DWW)

In a joint venture with the Los Angeles Unified School District's Transitional Kindergarten (TK) Program, CEEL acquired a $78,000 Doing What Works Grant. The goal of this project was to increase effective second language teaching practices for dual language learners in TK classrooms. Thirty-eight teachers and coaches participated in 6 professional development sessions during a six-month time span.
