CEEL's goals are to:
- Develop research tools and methods to address critical questions related to the education of ELs
- Provide professional development pathways for teachers and educational leaders to address the needs of ELs

- Partner with individuals, organizations and institutions that will inform and engage the educational community working with ELs

The Center for Equity for English Learners was established in 2006, with support from Bank of America.

CEEL's Director, Dr. Magaly Lavadenz was featured on KPCC FM in a radio release about a legal complaint filed against school district's English Learner policies.

CEEL's Associate Director, Dr. Elvira G. Armas testified at a public hearing in response to the Technical Advisory Panel's recommendations for uniform national rules for NAEP Testing of English Language Learners.
