Educators who utilize students' cultural and linguistic resources while developing students' academic competencies have the potential to significantly transform schools and educational systems.

CEEL's goals are to:

Develop research tools and methods to address critical questions related to the education of ELs Provide professional development pathways for teachers and educational leaders to address the needs of ELs		Compile resources to support schools and educational institutions working with ELs Partner with individuals, organizations and institutions that will inform and engage the educational community working with ELs
The Center for Equity for English Learners was established in 2006, with support from Bank of America.

November 2009

CEEL's Director, Dr. Magaly Lavadenz was featured on KPCC FM in a radio release about a legal complaint filed against school district's English Learner policies. Legal Complaint Filed (October 7, 2009)

CEEL's Associate Director, Dr. Elvira G. Armas testified at a public hearing in response to the Technical Advisory Panel's recommendations for uniform national rules for NAEP Testing of English Language Learners. NAGB Statement E Armas (October 19, 2009)
