Other Deadlines
- CBEST for in-state candidates must be taken/passed prior to the interview. Out-of-state candidates must submit verification of registration for the CBEST at the Welcome Orientation; the test must be taken/passed by Fall of Year 1 in the program.
- CSET1(subject matter) for in-state candidates must be taken/passed prior to the interview. Out-of-state candidates must submit verification of registration for the CSET at the Welcome Orientation; the test must be taken/passed by Fall of Year 1 in the program.
- Ultimately, all PLACE Corps California credential candidates must complete 60 hours of observation in a public school at the "appropriate grade level." However, for initial acceptance into the PLACE Corps' credential program, a minimum of 20 hours working with children is a prerequisite.2 If these 20 hours include observation in a public school at the "appropriate grade level," those hours may be credited toward completion of the 60 required hours of public school observation mentioned above.
* In lieu of taking the CBEST, multiple subject candidates are now given th option of taking the CSET: Writing Skills subtest or a similar basic skills exam from another state.
**Secondary credential candidates may waive the single-subject CSET with completion of an approved subject matter program in the following areas: English, Spanish, mathematics, history, science, and art. Transcripts can be evaluated to determine if undergraduate studies in these subject areas qualify as an "approved program" that may satisfy the CSET requirement. Determination of subject matter competency is pending evaluation of transcript by the appropriate academic department.
***Working with children may include observation in a classroom, coaching, being a camp counselor, tutor, teaching assistant, etc...
