LMU offers innovative programs specifically designed to prepare and
support educators employed in Catholic schools within the Archdiocese
of Los Angeles. All candidates are eligible for substantial tuition
assistance. Based on their professional goals and experience,
candidates can apply to one of several Master's, credential, or
certificate programs. Click a link below to learn more about a
specific program.
The
Catholic Archdiocesan School Teachers
(CAST) program is a two-year, cohorted program that leads to both an MA
in Education and a California SB 2042 Preliminary Teaching Credential,
with either a Multiple Subjects or Single Subject focus. CAST combines
online class sessions with face-to-face Saturday meetings. Applicants
must be employed as fulltime K-12 teachers or administrators at a
Catholic school within the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, and must have at
least one year of fulltime teaching experience. Please note that one
must hold a valid teaching credential in order to apply to the other
programs listed on this page. Therefore, CAST is generally the first
program that teachers in the Los Angeles Archdiocese will enroll in.
The
Professional 2042 Clear Credential program is designed for candidates
who hold a Preliminary 2042 credential (including CAST and PLACE alum),
are employed fulltime, and do not have access to a state approved
induction program.
LMU's
Catholic School Administration programs are specifically designed for
those who already hold a California teaching credential, have a minimum
of 1 year of teaching experience with that credential, and are
interested in entering school administration. Based on their
professional goals, applicants can apply for either an MA in Catholic
School Administration (which can be taken alone or combined with a
California Tier 1 Administrative Services Credential), or for a
Certificate in Catholic School Administration.
Those
who are interested in special education and who hold a
teaching credential are eligible for the
Catholic Inclusive Education
program. Candidates receive a rigorous foundation in both special and
general education, and are prepared to develop and implement programs
that support students with exceptional needs in Catholic schools.
LMU's
Reading Specialist Credential program prepares educators to serve as
a "trainer of trainers" in literacy instruction. Those who earn the
credential can serve as leaders who coordinate materials selection,
program development, and professional growth training at their school
sites.
