Loyola Marymount University is a recognized leader in the field of bilingual education. Our innovative programs are designed to serve those who strive to be professional, responsible, and socially aware teachers and administrators who will succeed in culturally and linguistically diverse school settings. Our programs provide a firm groundwork in research-based best practices, and prepare our graduates to serve as leaders and advocates for equity and excellence in education.

Our candidates benefit from comprehensive support for completing the academic and administrative requirements needed to obtain a California credential. All of our credential programs are authorized by the state of California.

For candidates looking to earn their teaching credential, our 36-unit teacher preparation curriculum leads to a combined MA in Bilingual Education and California SB 2042 Preliminary Teaching Credential, with a BCLAD emphasis. Depending on the level you intend to teach, we offer specializations in elementary or secondary education.

We offer an MA in Biliteracy, Leadership, and Intercultural Education for those who hold a teaching credential and who seek to enhance their leadership and instructional skills in bilingual and dual language settings. This program offers candidates the opportunity to earn the California Preliminary Tier I Administrative Services Credential.

SOE also offers an MA in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) for those candidates who wish to develop their academic and practical language teaching skills, as well as a California Teachers of English Learners (CTEL) Certificate for candidates who need CLAD certification.
