California has a two-tiered Teaching Credential structure. The first credential, the 2042 Preliminary Teaching Credential, authorizes the holder to teach in a California K-12 public school. Within five years of earning their Preliminary Teaching Credential, teachers must fulfill the requirements for the second level, the 2042 Professional Teaching Credential (also called the "clear" credential).
LMU's Professional 2042 Clear Credential program is an 8-unit, one-year cohort program designed for teachers who: 1) hold a valid California 2042 Preliminary Teaching Credential, 2) are employed fulltime in a subject area matching the credential they wish to clear, and 3) do not have access to a state-approved induction program at their school site. Please note that to be eligible to clear your 2042 credential through our program, you must meet all of these requirements.
Candidates who hold a non-2042 teaching credential (for example, those who hold a California Ryan teaching credential or those who earned their certification out of state), who are no longer teaching, or who are not teaching in the subject area authorized by the credential they need to clear, are advised to contact the School of Education's
Credential Manager to see if our program is appropriate.
