Credential Coursework and Requirements (30 units)

Clinical Practice

  • During the first year of the program, teacher candidates will be placed in a site for clinical practice for three hours on one consistent day per week over 15 weeks (i.e., 9am-12pm every Tuesday). 
  • During the first semester of the second year of the program, teacher candidates will be placed in a site for clinical practice in the primary grades (TK-2) for two days per week for 6 hours per day over 15 weeks.
  • During the second semeseter of the second year of the program, teacher candidates will be placed in a site for clinical practice in the upper grades (3-5) for two days per week for six hours per day for the first 7 weeks of the semester. Then, in the second half of that semester, candidates will transition to full-time student teaching (5 days per week for the remaining 8 weeks of the semester). 

Additional State Required Assessments for the CA Credential

  • Basic Skills Requirement (CBEST, SAT, etc.)
  • CSET exam (Subject Matter Competency Requirement)
  • edTPA

MA Options and Requirements (3 to 9 units)

LMU allows you to earn an MA by simply taking an additional 1 to 3 classes in addition to your Credential curriculum. Based on your professional goals, you can specialize in one of three MA concentrations. Here are the concentrations and class requirements:

Option 1: MA in Secondary Education
